languages and translation: Where do we
stand?

This paper discusses the uses and applications of media accessibility practices from an array of angles. A basic introduction to the very concept of media accessibility is followed by a summary of how practices are currently being investigated, or applied, in academic circles.
It seems clear that media accessibility, understood as an area of critical inquiry, explores how access to the media is achieved by means of professional practices that cater for the needs of persons with sensory impairments.
Media Accessibility has steadily grown out of its umbrella discipline, i.e. translation studies or more specifically audiovisual translation, since the turn of the century. In a time where awareness is increasingly being raised on the urgent need to make audiovisual products available to all, it follows that media
